The Advantages of Using a Disc Harrow

Disc Harrow is a generally used as a secondary tillage equipment, thus some farmers do not find it a necessary equipment to use. In some area or soil only the ploughing is sufficient to prepare the land for sowing seeds, while in some areas it is necessary to use a harrow before sowing.

In the areas where soil is mostly affected by drought, it typically is dehydrated. This is where we can see that crusts and clods are easily formed over time if soil is not cultivated regularly. A disc harrow is one of the most effective solutions to this problem.

The soil allows decomposition of organic matter sooner if it undergoes wet and dry seasons frequently. However, if it remains dry for a longer period of time, it may not let you make seedbed as per schedule. Even if you overturn soil using a plough previously, the layer below the top surface might have been dehydrated and some organic matter might still be there. This is another scenario where the disc harrow works best to prepare soil for sowing.

Pulled behind a tractor, the disc keeps the soil maintained and consistent by breaking and cutting through the clods and previous crop remains. It makes the soil manageable and effective so that the much-needed nutrients for the plant growth are evenly distributed in the soil. It makes sure that every patch of your farm maintains the same quality of soil all over.

In the parts where drought is unavaidable, farmers should adapt some farming techniques and equipment as their water conservation practices. Since the disc harrow allows granulating and modifying the soil to desirable standards, that helps the way in of perfect moisture into the soil. It helps water from natural rain and irrigation to sleep and creep deeper. And due of the leveled structure of the soil, the moisture reaches as much as spaces possible.

The disk harrows is just not very useful agricultural machinery for water conservation and drought management practices but it also allows farmers to construct furrow in faster way in case they also practice furrow irrigation. Furrow irrigation allows reducing water waste and also minimizes the pumping costs for water pumps per acre or inch needed for farming.
