Rotavator Overview, Works and Its Benefits

· rotavator,agricultural machine

Soil Tilling is an essential practice that needs to be done to prepare a garden, landscape or farm by breaking up the soil, allowing better air circulation and water flow. Rotavator is agricultural machinery that is used to modify the structure of hard soil in order to make a usable seedbed by churning the earth until the soil is fine enough for planting seeds or plants.

Depending on the requirement and type of job the rotary tillers size and range is selected. A mini rotavator can be operated on two wheels and pushed from behind. For large farms and large landscaping projects mostly robust series rotavators are used often that take power from the PTO shaft on small, medium-sized or heavy-duty tractors.

The rotating shaft of a rotavator digs the soil using a set of rotating blades or rotors that take power from the Tractor’s PTO. The tilling depth can also be adjusted as per the requirement; however, the ideal depth for tilling should not be more than six inches.

The width of the rotary tiller should be equal to outer width of your tractor tires to ensure there should be no gaps. For best practices, make sure to overlap the tilled soil on every pass.

Once the soil is loosened, you may increase the depth and speed for tilling and continue to make passes until the soil is broken to the desired depth of 4 – 6 inches, removing all the clods in the thick soil.

The benefit of using Rotary Tiller

  • Using the rotavator is an effective way to reduce the amount of time and effort it takes to prepare the soil with the best results.
  • Preparing seedbed with a rotary tiller is more cost-effective and provides for greater profit opportunities reducing maintenance costs for farmers.
  • Rotary tillers are also best suitable for weed removal in specific areas where chemicals cannot be used, either because of established plants or regulatory constraints.
  • It also works in heavy rainfall affected areas or irrigation to re-condition crusted soil and dirt.
  • It works way to mix compost and soil conditioner into the ground.

When using a rotavator, it needs to be handled carefully on uneven ground. Be cautious of rollover potential and make sure that safety equipment is installed properly and also positioned accordingly. Avoid too hard objects like rocks and other foreign material while tilling in any area. Do not try to adjust the blades or remove debris on the running machine.
