Ploughing is the initial step in farming and plough is agricultural machinery that plays a very crucial role before the seed sowing. Traditionally ploughs were made up of wood frames and the modern plough is generally made with iron, or steel frames. Modern plough is designed in various shapes and models to be used for different purposes. These are drawn by tractors to work on a farm. Different types of ploughs are used in different soil conditions as per their features, type of frame, etc.
Here we are going to discuss few models of plough in detail.
Disc Plough
Disc ploughs generally have three or more individually mounted concave discs inclined backward to reach maximum depth. Disc ploughs are specifically used in areas with hard and dry soils or shrubby or bushy or rocky lands. The discs cut through the top layer of the soil to expose it to the fresh air and sun, which helps in increasing the nutrients in the soil. It also increases the water absorbing capacity of the soil.
Mould-board Plough
The mould-board plough consists of the share and a broad blade that cuts through the soil. This type of plough is used for turning the furrow slice and soil. These tractor-drawn mould-board ploughs leave a furrow by throwing the soil both ways. It is preferably used in new area of land to prepare it for farming to cope with trashy conditions.
Reversible mould-board plough
The reversible mould-board plough is a very significant tillage implement used to turn the soil up and down completely and bring fresh and nutrient rich soil upwards for cultivation. It’s also done to bury the leftovers of the previous crop and weeds so that they don’t interrupt the growth of the new crop.
Harrow Plough
Disc harrow, also known as harrow ploughs or one-way disc ploughs, generally consist of a set of discs mounted on one axle. These are preferably used after grain harvesting to leave some stubble to reduce wind erosion.
Ploughing is very important as it helps in increasing the fertility of the soil and a plough is the agricultural machinery that is of great use for farmers. A farmer can chose from a variety of models that is most suitable for his land and the crop, he wants to prepare it for.
