Seed sowing is the process of placing the seed in to the soil to grow into a plant. Since the beginning of farming, farmers used to sow the seeds manually in groups, which was time consuming and laborious task. But with the introduction of innovative agricultural machinery, the modern seed drill has made this tedious task much easier. It not only saves time but also helps farmers saving the labour cost when it comes to sowing seeds in a large field.
The seed drills are also popular in the areas where soil erosion is a big issue. No till seed drill makes sure that the seeds are placed into the ground without much disturbance to the soil. In Seeding process with No till seed drills crop residues is left on the upper surface to keep the soil moist and protected against evaporation caused by sun and wind.
After ploughing soil becomes more vulnerable to erosion caused by unseasonal rains, but in the un-tilled fields the plant residues protect is from erosion caused by wind and water. Also the plant residue breaks up naturally on the surface, creating natural compost for the plant growth in the soil. It also creates a healthier environment for plants and saves them from any damage by insects. The organic matter or structure of the untilled soil is considered more productive than the tilled soil. This is also one of the reasons that farmers prefer using seed drill to place plant seeds into the soil.
Another advantage of using seed drill is that, it mechanically places seeds at required depth and distance in row and covers it properly to save it from birds and insects.
